JOEL G. MACMULL is a commercial litigator licensed to practice in New York State.

Joel has worked on a variety of commercial litigation matters in both Canada and the U.S. where his practice has focused on U.S. and international intellectual property law.

In particular, Joel’s practice includes:  

•    International trademark portfolio management;
•    Resolving multi-jurisdictional trademark disputes;
•    Domain Name disputes;
•    Brand monitoring and counterfeit enforcement;
•    Trademark clearance;
•    Technology transfers; and
•    Licensing issues

In addition to appearing before the United States Patent Trademark Office, Joel has appeared before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and has experience registering trademarks for clients in Asia, Australia, Canada, Europe, as well as the U.S. He has personally prosecuted trademarks on behalf of clients in both Canada and the U.S. and, given the breadth of his experience, is uniquely positioned to counsel clients on international registration matters. Joel has also negotiated and drafted a variety of trademark and copyright licenses, technology transfers, coexistence agreements as well as contracts for the purchase and sale of intellectual property.

Joel’s clients have included celebrities, professionals and multi-million dollar companies.

Joel also has a keen interest in intellectual property issues within emerging markets and has written and lectured on various topics concerning China’s recently reformed intellectual property laws. He has examined the challenges of protecting Western owned intellectual property in China and explored the resolution of these conflicts before Chinese courts and the Chinese International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), including its Domain Name Dispute Resolution Center. Joel has had the fortune to work with distinguished international arbitrators and advocates, in the process developing a working knowledge of Chinese contract, trademark, trade secret and copyright laws.

Prior to joining Goetz Fitzpatrick Joel worked as an Associate in New York and in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
