Peter Goetz, widely regarded as the dean of New York construction lawyers, has over forty years of experience as an attorney in the construction and real estate fields.  As a trial attorney he has both tried and defended complex construction claims involving disputes between owners, design professionals, construction managers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and building product managers relating to scope changes, design defects, changed conditions, delays, considerations, and terminations.  He also has an active practice in construction transactional law, real estate transactions and landlord-tenant law.

Chosen for inclusion in the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 New York Edition of "The Best Lawyers in America" in New York Magazine, Peter has also been featured in the annual Super Lawyers publication every year since 2006.

A graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (B, Civil Engineering) and Brooklyn Law School, Peter's engineering experience includes five years' practice in field engineering and supervision for highway, bridge and building construction as bridge engineer and assistant to field resident engineer on Throggs Neck Bridge construction in New York City.  He is also an experienced pilot of single and twin-engine Cessna planes; in 2007, he flew from New York to Buenos Airesalong the Atlantic Coast line of South America and back, crossing over the Andes and flying the Pacific Coast of South America. The year before he had flown around the entire country of South Africa.

Peter is admitted to the New York bar and the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York; the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Second, Third, and Fifth Circuits; the U.S. Court of Federal Claims; and U.S. Supreme Court.  He also holds numerous pilot licenses.Member of the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board and is a member of numerous bar associations and committees, the New York Building Congress (Board of Directors Emeritus; Public Procurement Committee, Co-chair), the American Society of Civil Engineers; Pilot Lawyer Bar Association, RPI's Civil and Environmental Engineering Advisory Board (Chairman) the New York City Procurement Policy Board (Advisory Council), and is a Fellow of the Center for International Legal Studies (Charter Member).

The author of chapters entitled "Representing the Contractor" and "Providing Liability to Allow Contractor to Recover Damages," in Construction Litigation published by Wiley, Peter has contributed a monthly column on construction law to Construction Executive magazine since 1978 and has published frequently developments in construction law in Contractors Guide magazineand the New York Real Estate Journal. He lectures throughout the United States and abroad on arbitration, litigation, alternate dispute resolution, mediation, construction law and real estate valuation matters and has been a featured panelist for Lorman Construction Law Seminars in the New York area.
